Art on This Day
Julie Manet, art collector, died on 14 July 1966. In her childhood she famously modelled for her mother, Impressionist painter Berthe Morisot, and her uncle Éduard Manet. After her parents’ death, she was taken into custody by French symbolist poet Stéphane Mallarmé and was financially supported by family friend Pierre-Auguste Renoir.
Her diary, later published as a book titled Growing up with the Impressionists, records her life from 1893 to 1899 and offers a great insight into the lives of the Impressionist painters that were active at the time.
